ArcheAge Chronicles
Auroria is open again, fifty years after the events of the first ArcheAge. This guide covers the Early Access build that lands on Steam: what the four classes actually do, where your power comes from, and which systems are worth your first week.
Independent notes on Auroria: classes, traits, dungeons and the Early Access build. Facts checked against XLGAMES announcements on 28 October 2026.
Before you leave the docks
Start your first week3
ArcheAge Chronicles is XLGAMES' open-world action MMORPG set in Auroria, fifty years after the original ArcheAge. You arrive as a member of an established trading company in what the game calls the Age of Pioneers: the old continent has been rediscovered, and everyone with a ship and a debt is heading there. The Early Access build opens on 3 November 2026 at $29.99, with three regions, four classes, eight weapons and a combat system that asks you to block, parry, dodge and roll rather than stand still and trade rotations.
This site is written from a player's chair. Every page answers one question you will hit in your first week, and the numbers come from XLGAMES announcements, the Steam store page and the demo build that ran through Steam Next Fest in October. Where the game has not published a figure, the page says what the game does show and leaves the rest alone.
Your first hour, in five steps
- Pick a weapon, not a label. The four classes each carry two weapons, and the weapon is what actually changes your kit. Read the class and weapon matrix before you spend twenty minutes on a character screen.
- Spend your first stat points on purpose. Every level hands you points for six stats; Strength and Intelligence drive attack, Agility drives crit, Constitution and Endurance keep you upright, and Talent carries magic attack plus the gear requirements you will meet later. The full breakdown is in stats and stat points.
- Learn the defensive verbs. Blocking, parrying and dodging are the difference between a fight and a funeral. Combat basics covers the timing, the stamina cost and the counter windows.
- Chase Raeven's Coilstones. Trait points do not come from levels. They come from Coilstones guarded by bosses, and they are the single biggest jump in how your character feels. Start with weapon traits and Coilstones.
- Turn in Nui Tears early. Tears raise your maximum HP permanently, and the first few upgrades are cheap. Nui Tears and statues explains the loop and the rising cost.
What the Early Access build contains
The launch build is smaller than the full game and XLGAMES has been explicit about that. Three regions, four classes, eight weapons, and a promise of roughly nine to twelve months of Early Access before the full release. Treat it as a long runway rather than a finished continent.
| What | At Early Access | What changes later |
|---|---|---|
| Regions | Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins, Astron Plains | More regions of Auroria and new story arcs |
| Classes | Warrior, Berserker, Ranger, Mage | Additional gender options, rolled out class by class |
| Weapons | Two per class, eight in total | A third weapon for every class |
| Content | Exploration, dungeons, raids, PvP, housing, crafting, trading, company and guild activities | Expanded life skills and community systems |
| Price | $29.99, buy-to-play | May change at full release; announced in advance |
The three regions are not a linear corridor. Each has its own questline and its own flavour, and the store page is blunt that your adventure does not have to follow a set path. If you want the geography before you commit, read zones of Auroria.
The systems that decide your first week
Levels are the floor, not the ceiling. Character level gives you stat points, but the things that change a fight are trait points, weapon trees and gear from field bosses and chests. The loop the developers describe is deliberately circular: explore to find a Coilstone, beat the boss guarding it, unlock a new skill or a new way for an old skill to behave, then go back to the fight that was killing you.
The three sources of permanent power
Levels give stat points. Raeven's Coilstones give trait points for your weapon tree. Nui Tears raise your maximum HP at a Nui Statue. Everything else, from field boss drops to treasure chests, is gear and recipes that support those three.
Dungeons are instanced for you or a party of up to four, with quest progress shared inside, and the game lets you run them solo if you would rather learn the hard way. Dungeons and raids lists what is in the launch build, including Throne of Hinnon, the high-level dungeon that sat outside the demo's normal progression.

Where to start, depending on what you are asking
If you are still deciding whether to buy: read release date and price and system requirements. The demo is over, so the next chance to play is launch day.
If you already pre-ordered: start with the first ten hours, then pick your class page. Warrior and Berserker are the forgiving picks, Ranger rewards positioning, and Mage is the only class whose second weapon turns it into a melee fighter.
If you played the October demo: the demo recap collects what was in it and what changed, so you can skip the parts you already know.
If the game will not start: troubleshooting covers the black-screen wait, controller issues and the party-panel problems XLGAMES has acknowledged.
One last piece of context. ArcheAge Chronicles is not a remake of the 2014 game, and the classes are not the old skill-tree mixes. There is no hybrid class builder here: you choose a class, then choose how deep into each weapon's trait tree you go. Players who arrive expecting the original's class combinatorics will be surprised, and the pages on weapon traits and stats are where that difference becomes concrete.
